This remarkable terracotta figurine originates from the Neolithic Cucuteni-Trypillian culture, which flourished in present-day Ukraine between 5400 and 2700 BCE. It was discovered in 1998 near the village of Busha in Vinnytsia Oblast, unearthed during the excavation of an ancient clay storage pit close to what was once a ceremonial site.

The idol is hand-shaped from locally sourced terracotta clay and bears the hallmarks of symbolic ritual use. Its stylized humanoid form, abstract facial features, and etched body details reflect the spiritual beliefs of one of Europe’s oldest known civilizations. These figurines are believed to have represented deities of fertility, protection, or ancestral spirits and were often used in household altars or seasonal rites.

Despite its age, the figurine remains well-preserved with a rich, earthy patina and subtle traces of mineral pigment, likely used in ceremonial decoration.
