This terracotta idol is a rare and evocative artifact from the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture, which flourished in the region of present-day Ukraine between 5500 and 2750 BCE. The figurine was discovered during the leveling of a slope near the village of Shcherbanivka in the Cherkasy region, an area known for numerous archaeological finds associated with ancient Neolithic settlements.

Carved by hand from local clay and low-fired in a rudimentary kiln, the figure likely represents a female deity or ancestral spirit. Its abstract features and posture are consistent with ritual objects used in household altars or fertility ceremonies. The stylized head, extended torso, and simple detailing are emblematic of the spiritual symbolism central to the Trypillian worldview.

Such figurines were believed to serve protective roles or to ensure agricultural abundance, family well-being, or ancestral connection. The idol bears surface weathering consistent with long burial and mineralization over time, adding to its authenticity and historical character.
